Schwarzer Kater in Freiburg im Breisgau

We were at the Schwarzen Kater for the first time and really liked the burgers. The service was very nice and responded to our extra requests. Even in corona times, everything was super relaxed, despite the legal requirements. We will come back in any case. The burger was delicious, it's a bit loud when you sit right on the street, but that's okay too. the prices are completely okay and the quality was also excellent. Nice that you are here and we hope that you will bridge the difficult time well!

Super great service, who are also quick and competent. Food tastes great, portions are really big, you can also order smaller ones.

The food is OK but once I got my dish half frozen. So I didn't even get my coffee for free. But: very good beer selection.

Until 4 weeks ago, I always enjoyed eating there. Now I have been politely advised 3 times that I am alone to look for a small table. Since none would be free, I was probably unwanted and left again. It's a shame, either the staff has changed or they have new instructions. I will no longer visit the restaurant with several people. A pity!!!!!!

I love breakfast there. The only point deduction because there is no lactose-free milk. Otherwise I really enjoy going there. You can sit outside, even when it's colder, as the radiators are hanging outside.

Great pub with lovely staff and nice outside and inside areas. The food and cocktails are delicious! There is also vegetarian / vegan food :)

Despite the many guests, we didn't have to wait long for our food. The food was delicious too!

Food looks delicious but tastes terrible. the meat is like rubber you can't eat. and the waitresses look at you al would you force them to work and serve us. I also work in service myself and know how exhausting it is, but no guest goes to a restaurant to be looked at and spoken to in such an annoyed tone.

Really top quality at a good rate ... before you are seated at the table, due to the current situation, it is freshly cleaned and disinfected ... very nice service ...

Food was delicious. Unfortunately, everything outside was full, so we had to take a seat in the restaurant. Music was a tad too loud but otherwise everything was okay. Food was quick. All the staff are very friendly.

An interesting pub in the middle of the city. Not far from the University of Freiburg. An extremely long and generous selection of drinks. Every beer lover will be happy to drop by and find something. Very friendly service. All clean. I can only recommend it. Even if you only order a soda.

Rude, tip is asked seriously! Incomprehensible ! After 20 minutes I got the card, the hot cocoa was made with water and lukewarm, there was no salt for the egg, avocado was already overripe and tasted slightly spoiled ... Paying then took forever even though there wasn't a lot going on everyone seemed overwhelmed. It was then seriously asked if you could get a tip ? and after you said no for good reason you were insulted! Other guests just shook their heads.

We went as a group of 6 people. Outdoor seating is definitely reccomended because the inside of the bar gets a little crowded. The table ordered the house beer and an ale. Non drinkers have a fairly limited items to choose from but drinkers are well catered to. To eat, we had a beef burger and the bolognese spaghetti. Both were standard pub fare, nothing to rave about. The dishes cost between 7-15 euros. The staff was fluent in German and English. Service was just a little slow but expected given the crowd the bar draws. Overall, a nice experience.

I agree with the reviews (based on many visits over the years): + Food is usually quite good taste- and price-wise (but the Schnitzel may be just warmed up sometimes) - Service chaotic, sometimes fast and professional, sometimes rude and terribly slow (in an almost empty restaurant!!)

This is a kind of pub. I preferred to sit outside - seeing a nice part of old city. It was a bit crowded and noisy inside. Service was very fast. Drinks came immediatly and my lunch was delivered within 10 min. Food was good and simple. Good place...

Charming local pub/restaurant in historic Freiburg. Oscar was an excellent waiter that recommended an excellent schnitzel with spritzel that were very “authentic German” dishes and SUPER yummy. HIGHLY recommend!!!
